Steve is a statistician whose interest in psychic phenomena puts him at risk in I, Lucifer. His friendship with Modesty and Willie continues well beyond that novel, in both dangerous adventures and quieter scenes among friends.

He and Dinah belong to the recurring prose cast. A Taste for Death, Last Day in Limbo and The Night of Morningstar show the Colliers within Modesty’s wider circle; the short stories provide further encounters.

The newspaper Steve is not confined to Lady in the Dark. He has a brief appearance in Idaho George and returns with Dinah in A Present for the Princess and Durango. These are documented appearances in a separate strip continuity, not adaptations of their prose adventures.
