Giles combines a gift for medicine with a guileless approach to everyday life. He is an important companion in The Impossible Virgin and later crosses into the newspaper cast.
The Young Mistress brings him into a London case involving an abused woman. The Wild Boar is another selected strip appearance.
His humour often comes from the contrast between medical competence and social innocence. The newspaper checklist also places him in Honeygun and Children of Lucifer; the prose links include a conversation in The Xanadu Talisman as well as his larger role in The Impossible Virgin.
